Elliott Smith. I remember my postmodern british fiction class was cancelled the next day because my professor was really upset about it. Two years later, I would spend most of the winter in my bedroom listening to his music with all the lights off. I read his biography, I wrote to him. I think I internalized it somehow, and spun out in some empathic overload. I still think he's beautiful and strange. He recorded all his tracks with two layers of the exact same guitar part. They were almost identical so you couldn't really tell, but heard a sort of heaviness there.
